How to skip an alarm for just one day on iPhone
Day off tomorrow, but your alarm repeats every weekday? The iPhone Clock app has no “skip once” button for regular alarms. Here is every way that works, what each one costs you, and the one that doesn't need you to remember anything.
- Your Sleep Schedule wake-up alarm: Clock → Alarms → under Sleep | Wake Up tap Change → switch off Wake Up Alarm. This changes the next wake-up only.
- Any other alarm: there is no built-in skip. Switch it off (and back on later), or remove tomorrow from its Repeat days (and add it back later).
- With Punctual: tap Skip today. Only that ring is skipped; the alarm stays armed for the next day.
1. Your Sleep Schedule alarm: turn off the next wake-up
If the alarm you want to skip is the wake-up alarm from your Sleep Schedule, iOS lets you change just the next one:
- Open Clock and go to Alarms.
- Under Sleep | Wake Up, tap Change.
- Switch off Wake Up Alarm, then tap Done.
Changes made here apply to your next wake-up only, so the schedule carries on afterwards. On Apple Watch it's a single button: open Alarms, tap the wake-up alarm, then Skip for Tonight.
The catch: this works for one alarm only - the Sleep Schedule one. Your other alarms, like a 6:30 gym alarm or a medication reminder, don't get this option.
2. Any alarm: switch it off tonight
- Open Clock and go to Alarms.
- Switch the alarm off.
The catch: the alarm stays off until you switch it back on. Forget once, and it stays silent on the next workday too - which is exactly how most “I overslept after the holiday” mornings happen.
3. A repeating alarm: remove the day from Repeat
- Open Clock → Alarms and tap the alarm to edit it.
- Tap Repeat and untick tomorrow's day.
- Go back and tap Save.
The catch: the same problem, better hidden. The alarm still looks on, so nothing reminds you that a weekday is missing - and it isn't just tomorrow: that day stays off every week until you add it back.
4. Skip just one day with Punctual
Punctual is an alarm app for iPhone built on Apple's AlarmKit - the system alarm engine behind the Clock app - so its alarms ring through Silent mode and Focus. It adds the button iOS is missing:
- Tap Skip today on the alarm: in the app, on the heads-up notification Punctual sends before the alarm, or on the Lock Screen.
- The card confirms it in green - skipped, still active - with an Undo if you change your mind.
Only that one ring is skipped. The next day the alarm rings as normal - nothing to switch back on, nothing to remember. Skip today is part of the free app. Punctual needs iOS 26 or later.
Which one should you use?
| Method | Works for | Must you undo it? |
|---|---|---|
| Turn off the next wake-up | Only the Sleep Schedule alarm | No |
| Switch the alarm off | Any alarm | Yes - switch it back on |
| Remove the day from Repeat | Repeating alarms | Yes - add the day back |
| Punctual: Skip today | Any Punctual alarm | No |
Questions
Can I skip several days in a row, like a vacation?
The Clock app can't pause a regular alarm for a range of dates. In Punctual, Vacation pause silences an alarm for the dates you pick and resumes it automatically afterwards; it is part of Punctual Pro.
Will the skipped alarm definitely ring the next day?
With Punctual's Skip today, only that one occurrence is skipped and the alarm stays armed. With the built-in workarounds, only if you undo them in time. Either way, no alarm app can guarantee a ring: for anything you can't afford to miss, set a second, independent alarm.
Does this work in Silent mode or Focus?
Yes. Alarms from the Clock app, and from apps built on Apple's AlarmKit such as Punctual, ring through Silent mode and Focus.
Updated September 2026, for iOS 26 and later.
